On September 13th at 11am we’re going to celebrate all that God has done through River City Church here in Missoula. We’ll have bouncy inflatables for the kids, and we’ll be doing a BBQ following the service. This will be a great day to invite your friends, family, and co-workers who don’t have a church home. We’ll take a look at what God has done through RCC in the past year, and where we’re heading. It’s going to be a great time!
Take a look at the promo video below and share it with people. See you soon!
Yesterday was the greatest Easter I have ever personally experienced.
We had no idea how many chairs to set up, so we set up everything we had! We had 100 people (OK, 99 but I’m believing in faith that Doug flunked math and he just counted wrong!)
We had someone from RCC Lewiston visit this week with their family that lives here in Missoula. Thanks for visiting RCC Missoula!
God really showed up! Music was great. Thanks to Tom from Axis Church for filling in on the drums. Great to have you at RCC!
I preached the clearest, most complete presentation of the gospel that I have ever preached. I decided to go without notes and just preach from the heart. I prepared by preaching this sermon 9 times last week.
I titled it the “Great Bailout”. I started by talking about the current financial crisis and bailout, then talked about God’s ultimate bailout for us. I think I forgot to actually make the connection at the end, but I think people figured it out!
We had at least 1 person make a decision of faith today. That’s what we’re about.
We capped off the service with RCC Gives Back! We did the unthinkable and gave the offering back to our people today and asked them to go and bless someone with it! We wanted to do this so that people could actively participate in God’s grace, mercy, compassion, and kindness. I don’t think anyone will ever forget this Easter!
I can’t wait to hear the stories. Next Sunday we’re going to read a bunch of stories from RCC Gives Back! about how RCC helped people this week.
I am SO looking forward to the Courageous Leadership conference at RCC Lewiston this week!
I’m telling you right now, you DO NOT want to miss the service this Sunday. We are planning something that is going to blow you away! What we are planning may be the coolest thing RCC has ever done. Bring a friend. Bring 2 friends. Heck, bring all your friends. I guarantee they have never experienced what they are going to experience this Sunday!
So we planned for 2000, and we had 5000, but it rocked! I know some people aren’t happy, but our volunteers are absolute heroes and we raised about 2000lbs of food for the Missoula Food Bank. How cool is that?!
I’ve got 30 people signed up to help for the Egg Drop. That’s a good proportion of our adults.
We talked about being missionaries to our city. Jesus brought the gospel to his people first. If we aren’t doing anything to reach our city, we have no business taking the gospel anywhere else…in my opinion.
In Acts 1:8 Jesus says that we will be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and the ends of the earth. I believe he was giving us priorities here: our city first, our region next, and then the nations.
Next week we’re talking about reaching our region by planting churches. Can’t wait! I’ve been praying for church planting strategies and I think God may be birthing something that is a little different than we’re used to. Maybe I’ll share it on Sunday.
I invited Pam Herbst from the Missoula 3:16 Rescue Mission to share their vision and opportunities for volunteers. What a great organization! They minister to the homeless and those with addictions. I just about cried when she shared the rat story. You’ll have to check on future blogs for this one, because it’s worth retelling.
Also shared about the Missoula Food Bank and all the good things they’re doing for our community. The church needs to quit the “Us vs Them” mentality when it comes to nonprofits and just come alongside them and help anyway we can.
BTW, you can go to our website and click on “Investing” and then “In Missoula” to find a huge list of nonprofits to partner with.
We ended the service doing “God of this City” by Chris Tomlin. Powerful song as a prayer and proclamation.
Men’s campout this Friday at Lolo Hot Springs! I’m really looking forward to hanging out with the guys in my wall tent.
1st Annual Missoula Egg Drop is less than 2 weeks away. I’m excited and afraid at the same time!
Had a blast today. My sister and brother-in-law were visiting us this weekend from Washington, so I asked Peter to play the drums today. He rocked!
We also added Diane on the congas today. That adds a nice sound. Overall, it was a great experience playing together with everyone.
We did our first hymn today! I have nothing against hymns. In fact I really love doing some of the classics with a more current sound.
74 people today. Our setup and breakdown is going so fast these days because of all the new help. Thanks everyone!
Less than 3 weeks until the egg drop! We recruited lots of help today at our Egg Drop Committee meeting right after the service. Amazingly, every single person stayed for the meeting! I think I might have forgotten to dismiss them. Oh well, it worked out great for me!
We wrapped up the service with a video put to Chris Tomlin’s song, “God of this City”. What a powerful song. RCC, if we make that song our prayer and our prophetic proclamation, I am certain that God will use us to reach this city for Him!
We’re going to sing that song next week. Can’t wait!
We’ve got the website up for the 1st Annual Missoula Egg Drop! This is fixing to be the biggest Easter event Missoula has ever seen! It’s amazing how good God is. The other day I sat down with Andrea and told her that I had to make a crucial decision about moving forward, even though we didn’t have the money to do it. We stopped and prayed and felt like God said “Go”. I took a huge risk. Today we got a $3000 donation that put us over the top! As a matter of fact, it’s going to be even bigger than we first dreamed. Go God!
In addition to being an awesome event for the community, we are partnering with the Missoula Food Bank and asking everyone who comes to bring a food donation. We’re going to have a blast and fight hunger at the same time. Doesn’t get any better than that, does it?
