Audacious Prayer

Bible,Jesus,Prayer and Fasting,Sermons,Services — Brian on February 5, 2013 at 8:41 am

Bold prayers honor God, and God honors bold prayers. God isn’t offended by your biggest dreams or boldest prayers. He is offended by anything less. If your prayers aren’t impossible for you, they are insulting to God. Why? Because they don’t require divine intervention.

Join us on Sunday mornings at 10am @ River City Church as we find out what it means to pray audacious prayers! We’re believing that as we step out in audacious prayer during this season, that God is going to show up big time!

Sunday Replay for April 17th

Bible,Books,Buildings,Church Issues,Church Planting,Music,Sermons,Services — Brian on April 18, 2011 at 7:46 am
  • 1st day in our new facility! Our team is amazing. They pulled it off without a hitch!
  • Our very first visitor showed up about an hour before the service started…and we promptly sent him away in the back of a police car!
  • Seriously though, he was inebriated and had a weapon. We really tried to be graceful, but eventually gave up. Hopefully he’ll come back when he’s not being disruptive.
  • On a positive note, the entire setup looked and worked great. The worship team rocked it. The Kidway area was all over it. The sermon wasn’t too bad either:)
  • We kicked off our series through the book of Romans. I’m super stoked to go through this book. No other piece of literature has had more eternal impact throughout history than this one.
  • This is the book that gripped Martin Luther and sparked the Protestant Reformation. This is the book that stirred in John Wesley and resulted in the Great Awakening.
  • Literally billions of people have been impacted by this book.
  • Yesterday I spent most of the sermon discussing Romans 1:17, where Paul writes, “The just shall live by faith.”
  • This is the theme that we will be exploring throughout the entire book. This was Paul’s battle cry. This was Martin Luther’s battle cry.
  • This will be our battle cry.

Do You Have God’s Approval?

Bible,Buildings,Church Issues,Sermons,Services — Brian on April 15, 2011 at 7:07 am

The Book of Romans has been called the single most influential piece of literature in all of human history, and rightly so. It is this letter to the Christians in Rome that lit the fire in Martin Luther’s heart and brought about the Protestant Reformation that changed the history of the world. The Book of Romans had a great impact on John Wesley, who ultimately led the Great Awakening that saved England from the fate of France and arrested the decay of English life, completely altering the history of the world once again. Ultimately, billions of people around the world have been impacted by this mighty letter penned by the Apostle Paul nearly 2000 yrs ago.

Although this letter touches on nearly every Christian teaching to some extent, Paul’s battle cry throughout is found in Romans 1:17 “The just shall live by faith.” Another translation says it this way, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

What does it mean to be “just”? How do we become “righteous”? Is faith really enough?

Do you have God’s approval?

Find out this Sunday @11am as we begin an in-depth study through the Book of Romans. See you then at our new location!

Sunday Replay for May 23rd

Bible,Church Issues,LifeGroups,Prayer and Fasting,Sermons,Services — Brian on May 24, 2010 at 10:13 am
  • The last 6 weeks have been AMAZING!!! River City Church hasn’t grown this much (spiritually speaking) since we launched.
  • God has been using worship, prayer, preaching, and LifeGroups to bring about this change. I really feel that we’re on the right track.
  • God has been changing lives like we’ve never seen before. Individuals, relationships, and marriages restored.
  • I am going to miss the Fallen sermon series. The Book of Galatians has been life changing. Did I already mention that?
  • I preached for over an hour last night on sowing grace into our relationships. The bottom line is that the way we sow grace into others is through forgiveness.
  • The best way to work through forgiveness is first to take the plank out of our own eye so that we can see clearly.
  • Then and only then can we humbly approach others regarding forgiveness.
  • Too much to explain here. You better just have a listen below:

Sunday Replay Feb 14th

Bible,LifeGroups,Sermons,Services — Brian on February 15, 2010 at 7:30 pm
  • Happy Valentine’s Day! Lot’s of love floating around RCC tonight.
  • We continued our series Wild Goose Chase tonight and talked about the evidence of the Holy Spirit in your life.
  • Based on what we see in the New Testament, the evidence of the Holy Spirit comes is manifested in 3 ways:

1)  The Power to Effectively Communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ

  • On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit came down on the disciples and the first thing that happened is that they all spoke in tongues proclaiming the miracles of God.
  • Then the most unlikely preacher of all stood up and boldly declared the gospel of Jesus Christ

2) The Power to Effectively Demonstrate the Gospel of Jesus Christ

  •  Jesus worked miracles to confirm His Word and his disciples worked miracles to proclaim the gospel.
  • In fact, Paul told the Corinthians that he didn’t try to persuade them with wisdom or lofty words, but by the power of God.

3) The Power to Effectively Live Out the Gospel of Jesus Christ

  • Some of us have a form of godliness in our lives, but we don’t let God change our lives.
  • The fruit of the Spirit should be evident in our lives as a sign that we are filled with the Holy Spirit, and that we continually becoming more like Christ.
  • So much more to share, but you’ll just have to listen for yourself!

Sunday Synopsis for Feb 7th

Bible,Sermons,Services — Brian on February 8, 2010 at 8:27 am
  • We had a very intimate gathering today. We changed our service time so that people could make it to church and still watch the Superbowl, but we still only had about 50% of our usual attendance.
  • That didn’t stop God from showing up! Worship was awesome today. Very simple acoustic set. Probably why it was so sweet!
  • It was great to have Eric and Jamie up there leading again. You’ll be seeing more of them in the weeks to come.
  • We continued our series “Wild Goose Chase”. I wanted to share what Jesus’ disciples experienced on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2.
  • I decided to show a video from a session at the Lifelinks leadership conference last October. Priscilla Reid did a great teaching on the power of the Holy Spirit, and she is also a very good storyteller. Her rendering of the day of Pentecost almost makes you feel like you were there!
  • I’m believing that the Holy Spirit is going to do a transforming work in the people of RCC over the next couple of months.
  • Let’s be expectant!
