Here’s a list of a few things you’re going to want to put on the calendar right now. Summer’s a coming!

4th Annual Memorial Day Weekend on the Lochsa! – May 25-28

Join us for our 4th annual Memorial Day weekend on the beautiful Lochsa River at Powell, Idaho. We’ll be camping out from Friday to Monday, and having a pig roast and church service in the amphitheater on Sunday. There are a ton of activities to do, including rafting the world class Lochsa River, bonfires, mushroom hunting, horse shoes, bike riding, hiking, hot springs, and geocaching.

This is a family-friendly event that your kids will love. We already have campsites reserved for both RVs and tents. Even if you can’t campout, we’d still love to have you join us on Sunday for the service and pig roast. It’s only an hour drive from Missoula, and we’ll be cancelling our regular Sunday church service at the building.

The cost to camp and for the pig roast on Sunday is $10/person, or $30/family. If you only come up for the service and pigroast, the cost is $5/person or $15/family. Please RSVP as soon as possible so we know how many RVs will be coming (space is limited for RVs), and how big a pig to get!

Also, we have plenty of extra tents, sleeping bags, and camping gear. So don’t let that hinder you from coming.

RCC Lewiston-Missoula Men’s Campount July 27-29

We’re doing a low-key father/son campout with our Lewiston church at Wilderness Gateway campground on the Lochsa River, about 2 hrs from Missoula. Last time we joined them we had 40-50 guys. It’s beautiful on the Lochsa this time of year, and the fly fishing is great!

We’re going to have some speakers lined up during campfire time, and otherwise it’s just going to be a time of hanging out and having some fun. Both fathers and sons won’t want to miss this one!

Family Camp near Glacier – Aug 7-11

Our network of associated churches has been doing this camp up in Hungry Horse for the last 25 yrs. We’ve personally attended for the last 10 yrs in a row, and our family wouldn’t miss it for anything! It is one of the most fun, refreshing times that our family experiences each year. You can camp or stay in a cabin or lodge. There is plenty of time for family fun, and your kids will absolutely love it. Did I already mention that we wouldn’t miss this for anything? Last year we had 4 families go from RCC and I’m pretty sure they’re all coming back!

Email me at brian@rccmissoula.org if you have any questions at all about any of these events..

I would like to invite you to join us on Tuesday mornings @7am (starting tomorrow) at the building for a time of worship and prayer. We will be taking this time to worship our God and pray over our city, our church, and other churches in Missoula. Everyone is invited, whether you are a seasoned “prayer warrior” or just learning how to pray. You won’t be required to pray out loud, but you can agree with others as we call on God to reach this city with the Hope of Christ. Our plan is to start with 20-30 minutes of worship, and take the last 30-40 minutes to pray. But we’re going to be flexible and Spirit led so it could change from week to week. Also, feel free to only come to a portion of it if that’s what your schedule allows.

I’m believing this word that was spoken over Israel and Solomon’s Temple is also true for River City Church:

2 Chronicles 7:14-16 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place. For I have chosen this Temple and set it apart to be holy—a place where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart.

So if you can make it, great! If not, no worries. Just come on the days that you are able. Or join us by worshiping and praying wherever you are on Tuesday mornings.

Every great move of God has started with men and women on their knees seeking God for revival. The next move of God in Missoula will be no different. Here’s believing for great things!

For those of you who have faithfully followed this blog for a while, I have to apologize for the lack of postings. Truth is, I’ve been so blown away by what God has been doing lately, that I’m at a loss for words. I’m not kidding.

Andrea and I were on sabbatical about 2 months ago when God stirred us up and began to pour out blessings on us and River City Church like we could not believe. It was a perfect example of God’s grace. We didn’t deserve it, we weren’t looking for it. God just began to pour it out on us. To hear more about this, please listen to the podcast titled Seasons.

If you’re reading this blog for the 1st time, then perhaps you have an opportunity to get in on what God’s doing right now in and through RCC.We invite you to come and see what’s happening at RCC.

If there’s anything I’ve learned in this season, it’s that it’s nothing that I’ve done. But only what God has done and is doing. It’s all about Jesus.

Now unto him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all we could ask or think! Ephesians 3:20

I’m excited to let you know that Andrea and I will be taking a 6-8 week
sabbatical starting at the end of Feb. We’re believing that God
blesses times of rest (Gen 2:3) and that he is going to bless us during
this time with renewed vision and an even greater passion to lead our
church and to reach the lost.

I write this because I know that whenever a church leader steps aside,
even for a time, there may be questions as to the reasons/motives
behind it. Let me assure you that our motives are pure and there is
nothing hidden that needs to be disclosed. Furthermore, our family is
healthy and doing well. We have the full support of our elder and ministry
team in this.

Simply put, Andrea and I have realized that in the last 5 yrs, we have
been doing a lot of doing, and doing less being (with Jesus that is) than
we would like. Just as in the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10, we have
realized that we need to take some sabbath time to rest in Jesus and be
refreshed. Life and ministry is more of an ultra-marathon than a sprint.
How we finish is more important than how we start. I want to finish well.
I’m sure that you would agree. And part of that finishing well is that we
take times of rest.

So please know, this isn’t the end of River City Church. We have an
AMAZING ministry team who will take up the reigns during this time. Our
sending church, RCC Lewiston will be providing speakers during our
sabbatical time. River City Church will continue to do whatever it takes
to take ground for the Kingdom of God here in Missoula.

You can listen to the announcement and get more details from this podcast
from last Sunday.

Thank you and blessings on you!

Brian and Andrea

Worship set: You Deserve, Rooftops, Higher than the Mountains, Lord I Need You, My Reward

I thought that worship was good on Sunday. We introduced a new song, “Lord I Need You”. Good stuff.

We’re still missing a drummer, but it’s still sounding ok. I’m told that I’m the only one who really cares that we don’t have a drummer. The problem is…I care!

I believe the purpose of our music ministry is twofold: 1) is to lead our people into worship, and 2) is to be evangelistic in our music. In other words, it should be done with excellence and should be culturally relevant.

And that’s why I care when we don’t have a drummer.

The good news is, it looks like we’ve got someone to at least fill in for a while beginning this Sunday. We’ll see how they work out.

Seems like we had about 4 or 5 first time guests, which is awesome because I preached one of the more difficult messages that I’ll preach this year. Oh well, I’m not much into giving people what they want to hear, just what they need to hear

We continued the series, Jesus did not say… with Jesus did not say, “The church is about what you can get out of it. Make sure you are being fed.”

Consumerism is plaguing the American church. We’ve got to stop thinking about what the church can do for us, and instead develop a mindset of what we can do for the church.

All of us have to be ALL IN if we’re going to take Missoula and beyond for the Kingdom of God.

I challenged everyone to step it up a serious notch or two when it comes to giving and serving.

If we’re going to do what I think God wants us to do in 2012, we’re going to need the people of RCC to be all in.

Btw, we finally have our new podcast page working!!!

You can listen to the sermon here.

We’re continuing with our “Jesus did not say…” series this week at 11am at the Best Western. Come on out!

Ever get an intense, uncontrollable desire to study Christian doctrine? The kind of urging that keeps you up at night? Yeah me neither. But the truth is we need to understand the essential, life-changing, eternal truths found in the scriptures. And we’re going to do just that…but it won’t be as boring as it sounds. We’re going to focus on truths found in the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, as well as the books of Acts and Revelation. You see, there are a lot of important things that Jesus said…and there are a lot of things that Jesus did not say, but that we think he said! Things like, “God helps those who help themselves”, and “To thine own self be true.” I can’t wait to tackle some major myths regarding the Christian faith, while at the same time bringing some life-changing truths that Jesus indeed shared with us. So be sure and invite someone this week. It could change their life. It could change your life. We’ll see you on Sunday!

We will be having a service on Jan 1st at our regular time and we’ll be celebrating the New Year by sharing a communion meal together immediately following! I’ll be talking about aligning your personal/family goals with God’s mission for 2012.

As far as the communion meal goes, we’ll be doing a potluck so we’d love to have you bring something to share. Main courses are in short supply, so if you can bring something that will stay warm for 45 min or so that would be great. We can plug crock pots in if you bring one.

We’ll see you on Sunday at 11am at the Best Western!
