Sunday Recap for Sep 27th

Church Issues, Sermons, Services — Brian on September 27, 2009 at 3:19 pm
  • Talked about porn today. Wow, you could have heard a pin drop.
  • We were actually in Joshua chpt 10 and talked about the 5 kings in the promised land. Talked about outing the kings in our land (ie the secret sin in our lives).
  • I think one of the biggest kings in the church right now is online pornography. It’s destroying people’s lives and no one is talking about it.
  • I was so nervous talking about it, but I refuse to stay silent!
  • All of the pastors/leaders that we keep hearing about having affairs or getting caught with prostitutes started with porn–I guarantee it.
  • It will take you farther than you ever wanted to go, and keep you longer than you ever wanted to stay. That’s just the nature of sin.
  • If you refuse to out the kings in your life, then God will out them for you. Sometimes publicly!
  • Why? Because he loves his children and wants to restore them.
  • If the church would stand on the neck of this king, God will heal his church and our nation.
  • Unfortunately we didn’t get it recorded. So here are some of the stats I shared:
            ·         As of 2003, there were 1.3 million pornographic websites

      ·        The total porn industry revenue for 2006: $13.3 billion in the United States

      ·        More than 70% of men from 18 to 34 visit a pornographic site in a typical month.

      ·        A 1996 Promise Keepers survey at one of their stadium events revealed that over 50% of the men in attendance were involved with pornography.

      ·        Over half of evangelical pastors admits viewing pornography last year.

      ·        29% of born again adults in the U.S. feel it is morally acceptable to view movies with explicit sexual behavior

      ·        57% of pastors say that addiction to pornography is the most sexually damaging issue to their congregation

      ·        28% those admitting to sexual addiction are women

      ·        47% percent of families said pornography is a problem in their home

      ·        “At a 2003 meeting of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, two thirds of the 350 divorce lawyers who attended said the Internet played a significant role in the divorces in the past year, with excessive interest in online porn contributing to more than half such cases.”

      ·        Other research has shown the internet was a significant factor in 2 out of 3 divorces

      ·        More than 20,000 images of child pornography posted online every week.

      ·        Approximately 20% of all Internet pornography involves children

      ·        9 out of 10 children aged between the ages of 8 and 16 have viewed pornography on the Internet, in most cases unintentionally

      ·        Average age of first Internet exposure to pornography: 11 years old

      ·        Largest consumer of Internet pornography: 12 - 17 year-old age group

  • If you still think that porn isn’t an issue in the church, in our nation, in your family, then you’re just being ignorant. Stop it!
  • Guys, you can’t do it alone. Get an accountability partner, one who has overcome this sin.
  • Get a filter on all your computers. Try X3Watch. It isn’t a filter, but it monitors every website you visit and reports via email any questionable sites you visit to 2 accountability partners that you select when you install the program. If you uninstall the program, it also notifies your partners.
  • I have the program send email reports to my wife and my pastor in Lewiston.
  • If you were a visitor today, sorry for no happy-go-lucky sermon! Come back next week.
  • We’re starting a new series: Born Identity - Discovering Our Identity in Christ
